Breast Cancer Awareness

October is breast cancer awareness month , it should be “cancer awareness month” though, and I just want to encourage everyone to have his or her breasts examined regularly. Both men and women can get this disease, although women have more breast tissue for the cancer to adhere to it is just as important for men to be checked as well.

Cancer has touched someone you know somewhere and even if you do not “personally” know someone, either a survivor or not, chances are you know someone who knows someone who has/was been affected by this horrible disease.

Breast Cancer Button-wordsIf you know me, you know that after many many years of living with the disease (27 years to be exact), my mother passed away due to cancer. But what you may not know is that as a result of early detection she lived a full life for many many more years from the date of detection.

I am asking that you ask/tell/encourage all those that you love to have their doctors perform the exam. If you have not heard on the news lately, there is much controversy around self-examination and it’s effectiveness at early detection. Mom found hers through self-examination, so every little bit helps BUT it must be performed correctly.
Please ask your doctor to show you how.

For the men : Although you may think you are not susceptible to this issue, well I have news for you. Colon cancer, testes cancer and breast cancer can affect us all, so please do your part and get your doctor to check you out.
DO NOT LET EGO GET IN YOUR WAY, as early detection is best for living a long life.

Please share this with others while encouraging your loved ones to “get the check-up that saves lives”.

Please click on the logos and help pay for a breast exam.

Best wishes to you all.

  2. Hear, hear! Great article. This year has been especially trying to me, because as you noted in your article, cancer has touched a several friends and in particular an Aunt who I dearly loved passed away early this year.

I have been getting more involved in the fight against cancer, and in particular Breast Cancer. I working on the end of awareness and education, as well as trying to donate more toward this cause.

    Keep up the good work.
