Luminato, a festival of the arts, will be invading Toronto from June 1st to June 10th thus bringing “the Arts” to as many people possible, some who may never get a chance to be exposed to it.
The plan is to invade the streets with various “art” depictions, in places you would least expect it.

Billed as:

An annual multi-genre celebration featuring theatre, classical and contemporary music, dance, visual arts, film, literature, and more.
The festival will feature highly acclaimed World Premieres, innovative new work and unexpected collaborations that result in unforgettable creative moments.

Some events are free and some are not but there is something for everyone.

There are Illuminations:

An illuminating series of lectures and dialogues that will provide audiences with up-close access to artists, performers and scholars while shedding added light onto the festival’s key themes. Illuminations Program Curated by Don Shipley.

There are free events, family events, 3600 free films for your viewing. There are lectures with such notables as Glenn Gould, Leonard Cohen, Polish master director Grzegorz Jarzyna, Gore Vidal . All these lectures are reasonably priced if not free.

To help launch the inaugural festival, Luminato will celebrate with a FREE outdoor concert in the heart of downtown Toronto on Friday, June 1st, featuring performances by Canadian songstress Chantal Kreviazuk, Gordie Sampson, Molly Johnson and opened by the Muhtadi International Drummers. This event will take place at the Garden Court, BCE Place and no tickets are required.

Toronto has long awaited the “new ROM” which has had a face lift. There will be a grand unveiling of a Crystal display there June 2nd.

The event promises to bring Torontos best to the world, and the worlds best to Toronto. The streets will be filled with the unexpected so keep your eyes open.
