Jennifer Hudson – Good, Bad or Just Ungrateful?

Posted by gottabkd on Wednesday, March 7, 2007

We all saw her on American Idol . We saw her sing her heart out… taking the huge leap from obscurity to well….. her 15 minutes of fame. American Idol parlayed her into the spotlight by allowing her to appear on the show. She did her jennifer hudsonbest, often out shining all the others, but America spoke… And voted her off the show. Much to the surprise of everyone involved. Let’s face it we were all shocked, even Jennifer was shocked as evidenced by her face that fatefull night more than three years ago.

Fast forward to day….

Since then, her doors have opened up….. wide open…. so open to the point that she starred in a musical production of Dreamgirls and to the surprise of everyone, then became nominated for a Golden Globe award for best supporting actress, an NAACP Image award for best supporting actress in a motion picture and then an Oscar also for best supporting actress. Wow, what a winner and a coo for her.

What can we say…. we love the underdog. The one who “got kicked off” American Idol because the fans wanted it that way. Mistake? Apparently not….. Good fortune for Jennifer….. Apparently so….. But is her attitude in the right place?

Since those wins…. Jennifer has been all over TV giving interviews and talking about “her fantastic moments” and the path that she is on. She often thanked God, as some winners do and then proceeded to thank the myriad of people who made her dream come true…. you know the ones, the producer, the cast, the stage hands, the gaffers.. the ones who all took part in the making of the Dreamgirls. What about family and friends…. not one did she mention them. Apparently there was tension between Beyoncé , though mostly undetectable by the general public, even though she never once directly thanked Beyoncé…. I often wondered what the reason was that she never mentioned her directly, but later decided that, while watching them sing together, it appeared to me, Jennifer really was trying to upstage Beyoncé at every chance she got….. so much so that she began to appear arrogant to me and a little more than desperate to prove herself…. Almost saying “I’m as good as even you Beyoncé, so there.” Just my imagination? Not…

Honestly though, I don’t know how anyone should/would really act given the sudden fame that must be overwhelming even to the well seasoned actor/singer/personality, but throughout it all the connection to American Idol has increasingly gotten snide, on her part, and so one sided that I wonder if the fame has gotten the better of her….. will it all come back to bite her in the long run? Me thinks so.

In an Extra interview challenging the AI affect was brought on by Jennifer, where she is questioned by the host saying, “You never felt Simon was a big fan” to which Jennifer replies “No he wasn’t, someone should rewind the tapes”. So taking that challenge on, Extra did just that and the result can be seen on the site here

I must say, that I too was surprised at the constant support given by Simon Cowell , but truth is always stranger than fiction. Let’s face it, no matter what, her win or lose on AI ultimately opened the doors that gave her access to the opportunities she has had and she should be more mature about it and recognize it for what it is. One day, Jennifer should take her own advice and “rewind the tapes herself“. We all love the haters, the underdogs, the meanies and the nay sayers but Jennifer, take a look at the evidence yourself. I think it’s time you eat a really huge piece of humble pie.

You be the judge. Leave a comment and let me know what you think…..
