The Amazing Race is back!!!

This Sunday marks the return of the Amazing Race, with it’s All-Star version. I must admit….. I’m sooooooo excited.
Of all the reality shows on TV, both past and present, this is the one show that I believe A-N-Y-O-N-E who plays it can actually win. I mean past contestants have been smart, athletic, obnoxious, intimidating, couples, parents, friends, grandparents, alternately challenged, happy, sulky, viscous old, young and just plain weird. But what makes this race so interesting is the fact that it spans many countries, uses cars, trains, planes, camels, donkeys, and rickshaws. Any mode of transportation is used while visiting various countries of the world and this time, they visit 28 countries over 28 days while travel ling 45,000 miles. These methods of transportation are usually the equalizing factors that allow even the weakest teams to come out on top.
I have always though that if this race allowed Canadians to enter, then I would find me someone with the same passion and just go for it. But alas, it remains an American game, with American contestants. There was one person who originally hailed from Canada, but was now calling the USA home which is why he was able to participate… you must have a US address. But I digress….
Back to the race…. This season the the amazing race is all about the All-Stars. Returning contestants are once again pitted against the elements, time, travel and the final one million dollar purse.
I for one really do not like All-Star anything, and especially don’t like this one. I mean, why do they even need the all-star lineup? Do we really want to see Rob and Amber again, trying to win their next reality-contest-turned-let’s-make-a-living-out-of-it win? Me thinks NOT!! And hope they don’t…
The show stands on it own even with the common folk. I find it fascinating to see ordinary every day people deal with the ups and downs of the adventures of the Amazing Race. And the fact that they get to go to places and do things that they would never get the chance to do, is refreshing to say the least. And it’s NOT survivor!!
This year’s line-up is:
> Kevin O’Connor and Drew Feinberg, lifelong friends (fourth place in Season 1)
> Ozwald Mendez and Danilo Jimenez, best friends (fourth place in Season 2)
> John Vito Pietanza and Jill Aquilino, formerly dating (fifth place in Season 3)
> Uchenna Agu and Joyce Agu, married (winners in Season 7)
> David Conley, Jr. and Mary Conley, married (sixth place in Season 10)
> Charla Baklayan Faddoul and Mirna Hindoyan, cousins (sixth place in Season 5)
> Rob Mariano and Amber Mariano, married (second place in Season 7)
> Teri Pollack and Ian Pollack, married (second place in Season 3)
> Eric Sanchez and Danielle Turner, dating (played on separate teams during Season 9) Eric placed second, Danielle placed ninth)
> Joe Baldassare and Bill Bartek, life partners (third place in Season 1)
> Dustin Seltzer and Kandice Pelletier, former beauty queens (fourth place in Season 10)
I am rooting for (in no particular order) Charla and Mirna, David and Mary, and the oldest couple to ever place in the top two teams, Teri and Ian. I don’t know for sure if any of these teams will win, that’s the beauty of the race… it ain’t over till it’s over and even when they think it’s over…. it just might not be.
